Come Discover America’s Unknown Tropical Paradise
In 2010, I decided to leave the rat race in the U.S.A and came to Saipan to begin a new life. It was a difficult decision to make, but after living in paradise for 5 years, I have no regrets. Living on Saipan has given me a great appreciation for this small Micronesian island. Much more than a beach-lover’s paradise, the island of Saipan is teeming with natural, cultural and human riches. Thanks to its near perfect tropical climate and untarnished natural heritage, the island offers unparalleled year-round water sports and outdoor activities. To spread the word about this island paradise, I have designed this website….please review my website and discover what Saipan has to offer you as a vacation and retirement destination.
People come to Saipan for many different reasons. For me it was a chance to live the adventurous type of tropical lifestyle that most people only read about in books. I felt like I was stepping into one of James Michener’s novels about adventure in the South Pacific.
One of the great things about the island is that it is so multicultural. You can find people from every corner of the planet living on Saipan….there are many different nationalities living and working together in harmony on the island.
Saipan is no longer a sleepy little Pacific Island. It is an island that has something for everyone. Not only can you find great weather, beautiful beaches, enchanting sunsets, there are also many fine restaurants, duty free shopping, a wild and crazy night life and a casino where you can throw away your hard earned cash.
The Rewards of Living the Island Life
When most people think of life on a tropical island they picture a third world type of environment. This is not completely true with Saipan. Though there may be some parts of the island that look less than desirable, the standard of living on the island is pretty good.
With tourism creating hundreds of jobs for locals, many are able to have a middle to upper middle class lifestyle. This is especially true among the native Chamorro and Carolinas residents. Tourism has also provided lots of jobs for the foreign locals. Many of these jobs are in the boating industry. People who visit the island not only fly in but they come on cruise ships, private and chartered yachts and sail boats. This creates opportunities for those who have boating skills or who are willing to learn the skills. Working with boats is not the only place you can find foreign locals working. I had many friends working in the construction business and selling real estate. If you want to live on the island bad enough you will be able to find work.
For me having a good job was important in living on Saipan. As a professional web designer, I have found great opportunity here offering my services to local businesses, helping them promote their services on the web. Quality of life is what makes Saipan unique and different from other tropical islands. Having a good job has given me the opportunity to experience the great quality of life the island has to offer.
One of the first things you have to think about when you live in paradise is where to live. There are several choices available on Saipan….you will be ammazed at the low rental rates for beachfront accommodations! You can choose anything from a tiny studio apartment to a fancy villa. I have been very lucky to live in some nice places on the island, but the best is the place I’m living at now. For the last 3 years I have lived in a nice apartment overlooking the beautiful Saipan Lagoon. From my deck I look right down to the beach, enjoy beautiful tropical sunsets and watch the island boys paddle their ancient outrigger canoes at incredible speeds….this is really postcard material! I have a ring side seat for all the beach events on this end of the island. From the comfort of my deck I can watch all the action of the beach, hear and sometimes see live concerts and watch great firework displays. But my favorite pastime is watching the spectacular Saipan sunsets I see every night. This is how I live and enjoy the good life in paradise!
One of the great things about living on the island is the many eating establishments available. If you like good food, this is the place to be. There are so many restaurants on Saipan that you can eat in a different one every night and never eat in the same one twice. These restaurants offer American, Italian, French, Chamorro, Filipino, and Oriental cuisine. Not only do these eating establishments have great food but also great tropical settings. Many are located on or near the water at beaches. With great food and a great ocean view, what more can you ask for.
For the times that you do not want to dress up and go to a chic restaurant, there are always the roadside grills. The grills are owned and operated by the native locals. They will have ribs, chicken, lobster and some times fish cooking on a home made grill. You can find them at festivals, street markets and annual events that take place throughout the year on Saipan….you will find some of the most delicious food you’ve ever tasted!. The only thing better than having a great meal, is having a great meal on the beach. For me Sunday is beach day. Since I am not one to hang out on the beach and catch a tan, I will find a nice beach side grill, have a couple of racks of ribs or a big fat lobster, throw back a few cold Coronas and enjoy the day.
Finding a great beach is easy on Saipan. The island is surrounded by a coral reef and has some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world. Two of the most popular beaches to hang out at is Manahaga and Micro Beach. Not only are these beaches incredibly beautiful, but they have everything from water sports to beach bars. They are also great places to meet new friends and relax.
There is no shortage of night life on Saipan. For the night crawlers that live on the island there are bars, dance clubs, kareoke bars and niteclubs that offer late nite fun 7 nites a week. My favorite is Godfathers Bar where you can enjoy live music and meet new friends. There is never a shortage of places to go and things to do at night on Saipan.
There are several special events through out the year. These events include the annual flame tree festival, Garapan street market, sport fishing tournaments, windsurfing contests and live concerts. And if that is not enough, there are always day trips to the neighboring islands of Managaha, Rota and Tinian. There is always something to do or some place to go on this island.
Benefits of Living On Saipan
People often ask me why I left the U.S. Some ask why I moved to Saipan in the first place. Very seldom does anyone ask why I stayed. When they do ask, I have to say it is because living and working on the island gives me so much more than living in the U.S…..no traffic congestion, perfect tropical climate, clean air with no pollution and affordable beach front living. Living on the island has given me the opportunity to make a living doing something I have a great passion for, designing websites. I have been able to make friends from all over the world. I’m very thankful to be living in paradise on an island in the pacific..my life on Saipan these past 5 years has been very good indeed! Please browse my Website and learn more about Saipan….maybe, like me, you will decide to make this island paradise home!!
Someone once told me the island of Saipan is truly America’s unknown tropical paradise. You put people from all over the world on this tiny island in the Northern Marianas, season it with some native Chamorro culture and let a Hurricane stir it up just a bit….when it all comes together just right you get the real taste of Paradise!
